About the Institute
Institute of Journalism was set up in 1968. The founder-director of the Institute was the legendary M Sivaram whose vision and foresight has made it into a premier institution of its kind in the country. The Institute offers one year part time course and graduate course. This is the only institute in India, which is run by professional journalists active in the field. In almost every major newspaper, news agency or other institution in the field of mass communication, one can see active alumni of our institute.
The main objective of the Institute of Journalism is to impart professional training to aspiring candidates to make them readily acceptable to the media establishments.
The Management of the Institute is vested in the Managing Committee of the Press Club, elected by the members of the Club who are working journalists and mediamen.The Institute is headed by a Director who is responsible for its general day-to-day administration, training programmes, conduct of examinations, certification of achievements etc.
